The FF Plus is once again calling on rural communities in the Eastern Cape to step up their security measures and to remain vigilant at all times after the latest farm attack and murder of Mr John Viedge on his farm Highlands near Nqangarhu (Maclear).
Three men seemingly gained entry to Viedge's farmhouse through a window on Sunday morning. He was reportedly shot through a security gate. Mr Viedge's wife was also in the house, but is unharmed.
Although the police claim that robbery was presumably the motive behind the attack, the attackers fled without stealing a thing and they are still at large.
The people of rural communities are strongly encouraged to join their local neighbourhood and farm watches that have the common goal of ensuring the area's safety and security in cooperation with the police.
The FF Plus has always been serious about combatting farm attacks and demands that the rural safety plan, which makes provision for the appointment of additional staff members for the establishment of specialised rural units, must be fully implemented.
