The FF Plus in Gauteng invites all parents who are experiencing problems with having their children placed at public schools to immediately contact the party for help.
The MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, has confirmed that the Department of Education has still not succeeded in placing a large number of learners. Lesufi blames late registrations and incomplete applications for these problems, but the FF Plus lays most of the blame for the placement problems at the door of the Department's on-line registration and placement system.
Some of the problems include the separation of siblings, even twins, by placing them in different schools while other learners have been placed in schools that use a medium of instruction that they do not even understand. The FF Plus has urged Lesufi to immediately abolish the on-line registration system and to revert back to using the previous system where parents themselves had to apply for their children to be placed at the school of their choice.
The probability that placement and admission problems will come up during the first few school days is, thus, great.
The party is also concerned that dangerous situations may develop at schools due to politicking, such as in the Hoërskool Overvaal case, and therefore, asks all parents and schools to immediately inform the party of any such incidents so that proper protection can be offered where needed.
Parents and schools that urgently need help can phone the FF Plus's provincial office on 012-7724410 or send an email to help@vfplus.org.za. Complaints can also be lodged on the FF Plus Gauteng's Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/VFplusGP.
If your complaint is related to admission or placement at a school, remember to include the following information: the relevant learner's application number, the school district and the relevant school's name.
