The FF Plus lodged a complaint with the police in Steynsburg about the illegal dumping of garbage, including medical waste.
Steynsburg falls under the Walter Sisulu Local Municipality, which is governed by the ANC.
It was brought to the FF Plus's attention that garbage was dumped on more than one occasion at a dilapidated old house on the corner of Voortrekker and Van der Walt Street in town.
The garbage included used syringes with the needles still attached.
Medical waste is classified as biohazardous waste and according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), it is defined as: "all waste generated in healthcare facilities, research centres and laboratories which relate to medical procedures".
The matter was also brought to the attention of the Eastern Cape MEC for Health, Ms Nomakhosazana Meth.
It was reported to the Department of Environmental Affairs' Directorate for Environmental Management as well.
