FF Plus hard at work to help contain Cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal

Since the outbreak of cholera in Hammanskraal, the FF Plus in the Tshwane Metro Council has had certain emergency measures implemented to ensure that people are educated and supplied with fresh water.

Apart from the water tanker trucks that are sent to Hammanskraal three times a week, additional fresh water is also supplied to residents five times a week.

According to the FF Plus’s information, the death toll currently stands at 15 and more than a 100 people have been treated at the Jubilee District Hospital in Hammanskraal.

The Hospital has already set up two additional wards, and hospitals and clinics in the vicinity will also offer support.

The Tshwane Metro sent water samples to a laboratory on Sunday to determine the cause of the highly contagious disease.

The FF Plus’s Mayoral Committee Member for Health, Rina Marx, says her department will do everything in its power to contain the disease.

The Departments of Community Safety and Nature Conservation are also on site and coordinating the situation from a mobile control system.

The Department of Health encourages everyone with symptoms of diarrhoea, stomach cramps, dehydration and vomiting to seek medical help immediately.

The FF Plus is concerned about everyone in the area and will, with the support of the Gauteng Department of Health, do all it can to determine the source of the contaminated water to bring the situation under control.
