The FF Plus today donated bottles of water to Pioneer House for the elderly in an effort to alleviate the water crisis currently affecting residents.
Large parts of Vanderbijlpark have been without water for six days after Rand Water conducted routine maintenance on the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s water system.
Residents currently have no choice but to buy water seeing as Emfuleni does not have the funds needed to rent water trucks.
Many schools that re-opened yesterday are also without water.
In the past, Emfuleni did dispatch water trucks to strategic areas, but due to Rand Water’s attachment of the Municipality’s bank account, no contingency plans can be put in place.
In addition, Rand Water also did not supply enough water to Emfuleni after the maintenance work was completed. After numerous requests, the water supply was increased, but it is still not nearly enough to serve the entire municipal area.
The FF Plus has meanwhile made use of social media to ask borehole owners to help those in need.
The blame for the water crisis cannot be placed on the shoulders of Rand Water alone. The Emfuleni Municipality is in such a dire financial predicament due to the ANC’s mismanagement that it is unable to implement any contingency plans.
Emfuleni residents deserve better than the ANC.
