This morning, the FF Plus in Gauteng discussed the problems experienced in Emfuleni and Mogale City with the province’s new MEC for Local Government, Mr Uhuru Moila.
The FF Plus requested the discussion after months of poor service delivery by the Emfuleni municipality and political problems in the Mogale City municipality. Emfuleni residents are burdened with poor service delivery, particularly with regard to water and electricity supply from Rand Water and Eskom respectively.
The municipality is not repaying its debt to the two entities and last month, Rand Water once again threatened to suspend service delivery to Emfuleni. At present, Emfuleni owes Rand Water R311 million, while its outstanding debt with Eskom amounts to approximately R170 million.
Concerning Mogale City, the FF Plus discussed the political unrest in the municipality, which is seriously hampering service delivery, with the MEC. The municipality is also heavily burdened with financial problems and it is currently selling off its properties, like the Bob van Reenen stadium and the Krugersdorp Game Reserve, to settle its debt.
Earlier this year, the FF Plus put pressure on the former MEC, Mr Paul Mashatile, and on 1 March this year, the party insisted that the premier relieve him of his office as MEC. He was replaced by Mr Uhuru Moila the very next day.
The FF Plus immediately requested an opportunity to discuss the said problems in Gauteng with the new MEC and the MEC agreed to it straightaway.

Constructive discussions are imperative for solving the problems in Gauteng. The FF Plus hopes that Mr Moila will have the political will to take decisive action and step in to turn the Emfuleni and Mogale City municipalities around so that residents can enjoy proper service delivery.
Mr Moila has a difficult task ahead of him, i.e. ensuring that everything runs smoothly in the Gauteng local government, and the FF Plus is hopeful that he will fare a lot better than his predecessor.
