The FF Plus demanded in a letter to the Free State MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, Sam Mashinini, that his Department must urgently pay attention to the unavailability of police vehicles that are supposed to be used to deliver critically important services.
According to media reports, officers of the Bloemfontein flying squad have been unable to do their job for the past week. The flying squad's eight vehicles are currently in for repairs and the police stations were instructed to make their vehicles available to the flying squad.
Bloemfontein residents depend heavily on an effectively functioning flying squad. If there are no vehicles available, police officers cannot respond to emergency calls. The FF Plus is concerned that this could turn into a safety crisis.
The FF Plus leader, Dr Pieter Groenewald, will also demand in the parliamentary portfolio committee for Police that the lack of critically important vehicles must be treated as a matter of absolute urgency.
The FF Plus fights back against crime. The Free State deserves effective policing with resources being used to the benefit of all its people.
