The FF Plus demands that the Free State MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Thembeni Nxangisa, must visit the Matjhabeng Local Municipality (Welkom, Odendaalsrus, Allanridge, Virginia and Henneman) and explain to residents what will be done to save the Municipality.
The MEC, Matjhabeng's Mayor, Nkosenjani Speelman, and the municipal manager, Elias Tsoaeli, have no other choice but to convene a public meeting to address residents and explain why the Municipality finds itself in such a predicament.
On Tuesday, the FF Plus's MPL in the Free State Legislature, Dévar Smith, made this request to Nxangisa.
Service delivery in the Municipality has come to a complete standstill. There are streams of sewage running down the streets and water is being wasted even though the Municipality already owed Sedibeng Water more than R2 billion for water services in August this year. No maintenance or repair work is being done.
There is no garbage removal and potholes have become the norm.
Paying residents have lost hope and sometimes even do the necessary repair work themselves just to ensure access to basic services like running water.
Matjhabeng is a shining example of how poor ANC policy is destroying the country. ANC cadres have looted the Municipality to such an extent that residents now have to pay extra for services that they are already paying for.
The time has come for the ANC to be held accountable for its failures in Matjhabeng.
The ANC is governing the Municipality and the province. The same ANC allowed its political leaders to rob residents of service delivery. And that same ANC must now explain what its plans are with the Municipality.
