Residents of the Petrus Steyn in the Nketoana Local Municipality (Arlington, Lindley, Petrus Steyn, Reitz) are experiencing serious water supply problems.
A number of years ago, this Municipality started a pipeline project to connect Petrus Steyn and Reitz. It still has not been completed and causes disruptions in the water supply to the town.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is unacceptable that Petrus Steyn residents do not have water from 18:00 every night.
The FF Plus sent an official letter to the Free State MEC for Cooperative Governance, Thembeni Nxangisa, requesting that his Department must investigate the matter and support the Municipality so that it can provide relief to residents.
If the MEC's response is not satisfactory, the party will take up the matter with the Minister of Water and Sanitation.
The Constitution stipulates that South Africans have the right to an adequate supply of water and the FF Plus will keep fighting to ensure that people's basic human rights are met.
