The FF Plus condemns the demonstrations that have been taking place in Mpumalanga since Wednesday in protest against the rising fuel price, and demands that the authorities take action against those who cause disruption.
Taxi drivers and trucks have been blocking various routes to and from Mpumalanga, particularly in the CBD of Mbombela (Nelspruit).
The FF Plus demands that Mpumalanga residents' rights to freedom of movement and trade must be protected to ensure everyone's survival. In addition to ensuring the public's personal safety, economic security must also be a priority.
Members of the communities of Mbombela, Barberton, Matsulu, Ngodini, Hazyview, White River and the surrounding areas have since joined the demonstrations.
Most businesses have been unable to open since Wednesday seeing as workers are unable to get to their place of work.
These demonstrations and the closure of national and provincial roads in the province have a severely detrimental impact on the economy seeing as both small and large businesses struggle to function under these circumstances.
Everyone in the province is still coming to terms with the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and cannot absorb the negative impact of these demonstrations as well.
