The FF Plus strongly condemns the latest farm attack in the Free State in which Mr Jansen van Rooyen was attacked and, among other things, hit over the head with a heavy object in a storeroom on his farm along the N3 between Warden and Harrismith.
Mr Van Rooyen is receiving medical care in a hospital in Harrismith. The attackers, who had a firearm in their possession, fled on foot.
Mr Jan van Niekerk, FF Plus provincial leader in the Free State, together with the police and a number of farmers, was at the scene of the crime until late into the night. A joint search for the attackers was undertaken and a hiding place, where the perpetrators presumably hid before the attack, was discovered near the farm.
The FF Plus is once again calling on farmers to ensure their own safety and to defend themselves within the constraints of the law.
It has become evident that attackers will use extreme violence to maim, torture and murder farmers, even for something as simple as a cell phone.
The FF Plus will continue to put pressure on the government to declare farm attacks a priority crime.
The FF Plus wishes Mr Van Rooyen a speedy recovery and will cooperate with the police to find and apprehend the attackers as soon as possible.
