The FF Plus condemns with contempt the racist statements made by the EFF’s Obakeng Ramabodu during the Tshwane Metro’s council meeting yesterday.
Ramabodu said, among other things, that he wants to “assault a boer” (ʼn boer moer) because he is “out for Afrikaner blood”.
The party has already contacted a legal practitioner regarding further steps, and wants to send a loud and clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated.
There are a few options to consider: lodging a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC), making an application to the Equality Court or lodging a criminal complaint by following the normal punitive process.
The FF Plus will not tolerate the Afrikaner being humiliated and threatened in this way.
Today’s statements in the council chambers amount to hate speech and run counter to everything the party stands for.
According to the Constitution, specifically section 16 on the freedom of expression, there are certain restrictions on the right to speak one’s mind.
The right in subsection (1) does not extend to — (a) propaganda for war; (b) incitement of imminent violence; or (c) advocacy of hatred that is based on race, ethnicity, gender or religion, and that constitutes incitement to cause harm.
Ramabodu’s conduct reeks of hatred based on race and ethnicity, and he should bear the consequences of his unacceptable outburst.
