The FF Plus welcomes the investigation launched by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) into allegations of serious maladministration in the way that the National Lottery Commission conducts its business and calls on Minister Ebrahim Patel to intervene more drastically after the SIU's investigation by placing the Commission under administration.
This follows after various complaints were lodged about unlawful expenses that relate to public money and property, unauthorised expenditure and transactions. The SIU is investigating alleged transgressions that occurred between 1 January 2014 and 30 November 2020.
The Minister was recently prevented by the parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry and Competition to compile a shortlist of candidates to replace the embattled Commission's chairperson, Prof Alfred Nevhutanda. The process of conducting interviews with candidates will be concluded early next year.
