With the by-election that was held in Ward 15 in the Ekurhuleni Metro on Wednesday, the FF Plus's support grew from the 3% that the party obtained in the August 2016 municipal elections to 30,22%.
Support for the DA decreased from 88,46% to 63,79%.
The DA retained control of the Ward in Kempton Park with a much smaller majority as it got 2877 votes in comparison to the FF Plus's 1363, the ANC's 230 and the EFF's 40. The voter turnout was 27,64%.
With a by-election that took place in July 2019 in the Johannesburg Metro, support for the FF Plus grew from 3,8% in 2016 to 23,27%. The party also took a ward in Stilfontein from the DA with a municipal by-election.
These results confirm that there is an exodus of voters from the DA to the FF Plus. It is becoming increasingly clear that after the 2021 local government elections, the FF Plus will play a much more significant role.
