The FF Plus will request an urgent meeting with the Eastern Cape MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Xolile Nqatha, because last week he asked that the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Council (NMBM) must be placed under administration.
The Metro currently has no mayor, the acting city manager is utterly inept and none of the problems in the Metro, that the national Treasury pointed out, are being addressed.
It is of the utmost urgency that every effort is made to restore stability and order in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. In the first place, answers must be provided to the national Treasury's questions about the mismanagement of funds.
The FF Plus wants to see order restored so as to avoid being placed under administration and will insist that a council meeting must be convened to elect a mayor as soon as possible.
The complaint that an incompetent official was appointed as city manager must be heard and investigated on provincial level.
The ANC government is not able to manage municipalities. It is not even able to manage those that have been placed under administration. Nqatha's request for administration carries no weight and comes down to no more than an ANC power play and politicking within the Metro.
