The Ekurhuleni Metro has launched a WhatsApp system with a chatbot that residents can use to settle traffic fines.
Motorists who do not reside in the area, but want to settle Ekurhuleni traffic fines can also make use of the system.
The Metro was compelled to find an alternative after a dispute arose with the service provider running the Pay City webpage.
The chatbot system designed by the Metro is already being used for other functions as well.
Residents who want to pay their municipal bills can still make use of the e-siyakhoka system.
To make use of the chatbot function, dial the WhatsApp number 060 667 7177 and follow the prompts.
Users will be provided with an active fine list and be given the option to decide which fine they want to pay.
Motorists are also still welcome to visit the respective offices of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) from Mondays to Fridays between 08:00 and 15:00 to make payments.
The Metro spends most of its budget on contractor services, so, millions could be saved annually by making use of existing technology.
