EFF Speaker of Ekurhuleni must formally apologise for contempt of council

The FF Plus demands that the EFF Speaker of the Ekurhuleni Metro Council, Nthabiseng Tshivhenga, must formally apologise to the council for her poor planning and failure to attend an institutional review workshop.

After much pressure from the FF Plus, the Speaker organised a compulsory institutional review workshop for councillors, but did not bother to attend the training herself.

In fact, very few EFF and ANC councillors turned up for the workshop.

After the Speaker and other responsible presenters had failed to show up, the workshop was adjourned without any progress having been made.

This workshop aims to inform councillors of the challenges related to service delivery caused by institutional problems and to provide input.

The Municipal Systems Act requires a personnel service review to be conducted after the election of a new municipal council. Based on this legislative requirement, the new administration must conduct an institutional review.

It brings the work of the Metro’s administration and the city’s daily activities in line with the strategic objectives of the political leadership.

The Ekurhuleni Metro has allowed municipal officials and department heads free rein for much too long, to the detriment of service delivery.

This workshop incident is a clear indication of the ANC/EFF government in Ekurhuleni’s incompetence.

The FF Plus will hold the Speaker accountable for how poorly the workshop was organised, and the contempt she demonstrated by failing to attend it.

The party demands that another workshop must be organised to effectively address the poor service delivery in Ekurhuleni.
