The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the removal of EFF councillor Leroy Legabe as Member of the Mayoral Committee for Environmental Affairs in the West Rand District Municipality on 1 July.
This follows an altercation between Legabe and other councillors during a council meeting on Monday, where an item was discussed in committee.
During the meeting, the Freedom Front Plus pointed out to the Speaker, Bethuel Munyai, that such conduct is unacceptable and that he ought to keep councillors in check. It did not happen, though.
This is not the first time that Legabe has engaged in misconduct. He had to be removed from a previous meeting after attempting to smash a glass bottle against a table.
The Freedom Front Plus condemns these incidents and believes that meetings ought to be conducted in an orderly fashion, with differences resolved through structured dialogue.
Sound decisions that benefit the Municipality and its people cannot be taken during a disorderly council meeting.
