Deputy President Paul Mashatile's visit to the Emfuleni Local Municipality (Evaton, Sebokeng, Vaal Oewer, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging) yesterday was no more than a show of power seeing as very few of President Cyril Ramaphosa's promises for the area were executed.
With his visit to Emfuleni in August last year, President Ramaphosa promised that potholes will be repaired, sewage problems will be resolved, and service delivery will be improved.
Nearly nothing came of it. On the contrary, Emfuleni is staggering from one crisis to the next and service delivery has basically come to a standstill.
The sewage crisis is still not resolved even though an amount of R965 million was earmarked in 2020 to rehabilitate the Vaal sewage network.
Thus far, only R265 million of the money has been spent and sewage flows freely through Emfuleni's streets.
The FF Plus is not convinced that the Deputy President's visit will bring about any positive changes in Emfuleni, and views it as nothing more than canvassing for votes in the run-up to next year's general elections.
The ANC has run Emfuleni into the ground and does not possess the political will to govern the Municipality successfully for the benefit of all its residents.
Emfuleni deserves better than the ANC.
