A mini-substation on the corner of Bloemkomdraai and Opsaal Streets in Kempton Park West was vandalised on Monday night (30 June), leaving many households without power.
The substation will now be demolished and replaced with a new, modern substation.
Kempton Park West is notorious for criminals targeting mini-substations and destroying infrastructure faster than it can be repaired. This places a significant additional burden on infrastructure and public safety.
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) strongly condemns the destruction of infrastructure, and has called on the Ekurhuleni Metro to urgently appoint local and private security companies to assist in protecting critical infrastructure.
This is no longer petty crime, but a coordinated assault on Kempton Park’s infrastructure.
The Metro has no choice but to act now. Community-based security is no longer enough.
The Freedom Front Plus encourages residents to remain vigilant, and to immediately contact their nearest police station and report any suspicious activities.
