Limpopo's latest crime statistics for the third quarter of 2022/2023 are disappointing.
The police force, headed by the provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-general Thembi Hadebe, is failing to ensure the safety of communities.
The FF Plus has thus far not received any response or feedback on its letter to Hadebe concerning the 148 unsolved theft cases in the Mara, Alldays, Mogwadi and Waterpoort region in Limpopo for the period between January 2022 to December 2022.
The party requested the Commissioner to meet urgently with the station commanders of the relevant police stations to address the shortage of manpower and vehicles.
What is particularly alarming is that the police's own attempts to combat crime are obviously not working.
That is evident in the following crime figures (compared to the previous quarter):
• Total contact crimes: 12 297 (10 175)
• Total contact-related crimes: 2196 (2 115)
• Total property-related crimes: 6 348 (6 145)
• Total other serious crimes: 7 271 (6 751)
These figures also prove that the police force's crime intelligence is completely non-functional.
Clearly, intervention is urgently needed at the province's police stations, but the FF Plus doubts that Hadebe has sleepless nights over it.
