Court decision regarding Seriti Arms Commission: Police must investigate

The High Court in Pretoria confirmed what South Africans have known for a long time: that the Seriti Commission of Inquiry into the Arms Deal, in which former President Jacob Zuma was implicated, made no real attempt to uncover corruption and call the guilty parties to account.

The FF Plus insists that all relevant information and all testimony provided by witnesses before the Seriti Commission must be handed over to the police's unit for priority crime for investigation and prosecution. The guilty parties cannot get off scot-free.

Judge Willie Seriti must also be held accountable and the role he played must be investigated so as to determine if he should be held criminally accountable for the failed Commission of Inquiry.

The Court's ruling today, namely that he disregarded key testimonies and that he ignored important reports and court findings, is damning.

The FF Plus is of the opinion that Judge Seriti must be held personally accountable for a part of the more than R100 million that his Commission cost the taxpayer while the accused parties seems to have been wrongly vindicated.
