Constitutional Court judgment on Sassa the start of Minister Bathabile Dlamini’s problems

The Constitutional Court’s judgment today about the Sassa debacle is not the end of Minister Bathabile Dlamini’s problems with this issue. It is just the start of it, Dr. Corné Mulder, chief whip of the FF Plus, says.

The court found that Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) has to continue paying the social grants for the next twelve months as there is currently no alternative. The service will, however, continue on strict conditions and under supervision of the court.

Dr. Mulder says it is made clear in the judgment that the executive had failed in in fulfilling its constitutional obligations.

“Regarding minister Dlamini, the court made it quite clear that she is the responsible person, not only to give guidance with Sassa, but also to take full responsibility for the situation.

“She is now enjoined in her personal capacity to this case. She also has to come and explain her actions to the court, as well why she failed to head the court’s judgment three years ago.

“It is significant that the order of costs has been reserved. It is clear that the court wants to hear from the minister before a final decision is taken,” Dr. Mulder says.
