The constant wave of cable theft in Kempton Park has to be stopped; the Ekurhuleni Metro needs to take drastic action against these criminals who disrupt basic service delivery and residents’ lives.
The most recent incidents over the weekend include cable theft reported at Karee, Silverleaf and Moepel Street in Birchleigh.
A mini-substation in Glen Marais as well as transmission points in Bredell, Pomona and Bonaero Park were also vandalised.
Incidents of cable theft in Kempton Park are not isolated. The power cables in the abovementioned streets were also stolen on 15 January, after which they were replaced.
Cable theft not only puts a financial burden on the Metro, but also leaves residential areas without power for long periods of time.
The FF Plus is once again imploring the Metro to appoint local security companies to help guard the Metro’s critical infrastructure.
The Metro needs to prioritise protecting its infrastructure to keep criminal elements from causing detriment to law-abiding residents.
