The FF Plus is concerned about the rise in the theft of power cables and electrical components in Kempton Park in the Ekurhuleni Metro.
The last few months have seen a drastic increase in this type of crime, which has a severely detrimental impact on businesses, households and public infrastructure.
The FF Plus’s own record of received complaints indicates that incidents of cable theft have shot up from 12 in September to 34 in October.
Local businesses are suffering serious financial losses because of this crime. It also has an impact on the community’s quality of life and poses serious safety risks.
The FF Plus is cooperating with the Metro to address the problem, but it is clear that a comprehensive strategy and community involvement are needed to eradicate the problem.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.
