Buffalo City does not render services, but pays more than R115 000 for Women’s Committee caucus meeting

The FF Plus refuses to attend the Buffalo City Metro Council's Women's Committee's caucus meeting scheduled for the next three days due to the exorbitant costs related to it.

The planned Women's Committee's caucus and "strategic planning and capacity session" takes place from 1 to 3 June at the Royal St Andrews Hotel in Port Alfred at a cost of R115 501,00.

It includes, among other things, accommodation for 20 persons at R1 375,00 per night.

The rest of the amount covers the cost of hiring the venue and catering. It does not include the travel expenses that councillors can claim from the Metro.

Buffalo City's service delivery, which includes services to East Londen and King William’s Town, falls far short. Thus, spending such an exorbitant amount of money on a meeting is a slap in the face of loyal taxpayers.

Port Alfred, which falls under the Ndlambe Local Municipality, is 138km from East London where most of the female councillors reside.

Buffalo City could rather have hosted the event in East London's City Hall and made use of local service providers for a fraction of the cost.

The FF Plus posed questions to the Speaker, Humphrey Maxegwana, about who authorised this expense seeing as it was not tabled before Council for approval.

The FF Plus will not stand idly by and look on as the hard-earned money of residents who are plagued by poor service delivery is misused, and it will hold the ANC accountable.
