The appointment of President Jacob Zuma’s special advisor, Vuma Mashinini, as chief electoral officer of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will be an injustice to South Africa’s democracy, Dr. Pieter Groenewald, parliamentary spokesperson of the FF Plus says.
Dr. Groenewald says the chief officer of the electoral commission, whether it is a man or a woman, should be a person beyond reproach as only such a person will have the trust of the people of South Africa and will make them feel that the electoral process is above suspicion.
“The ANC is not doing the public of South Africa a favour with this appointment and the FF Plus will not support it,” Dr. Groenewald said.
