The ANC/EFF government in the Ekurhuleni Metro Council is suddenly showing interest in the progress made with the aerotropolis development after the FF Plus drew their attention to it during the Metro’s budget vote debate.
This development is strategically situated close to the OR Tambo International Airport and has the potential to attract foreign and local investors.
The FF Plus is of the opinion that this development is currently not being fully utilised or properly managed.
The development has endless potential, but very little progress has been made since 2017 under ANC rule. Progress reports are not provided to the Metro Council on a regular basis either.
The success of the aerotropolis development will alleviate the burden on the Metro’s residents seeing as then the Metro will not have to rely solely on municipal tariffs for generating revenue.
It will also benefit the local economy by offering new opportunities for small, medium and micro enterprises to create more jobs.
Since the FF Plus’s reference to the aerotropolis development, the ANC/EFF government has visited the site to determine what progress has been made.
The FF Plus also requested the council’s Speaker, Nthabiseng Tshivenga, and the Mayor, Sivuyile Ngodwana, to table a comprehensive progress report on the aerotropolis development with the next council meeting.
The development will only be successful if it is properly planned, executed and managed, and thorough oversight is exercised.
