The ANC was dealt a severe blow yesterday in the National Assembly (NA) as it was forced to refer a report back to the relevant Portfolio Committee after it became apparent that the report would be rejected with a majority vote.
The Portfolio Committee for Small Business Development had to table a report on the process it followed to compile a shortlist for the position of Small Business Ombudsman, whose role is to protect small enterprises from unfair competition.
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) and several other opposition parties pointed out flaws in the process. Besides, the ANC was poorly represented in the NA. This prompted the Chief Whip to request that the report be sent back to the Committee.
This serves as proof that the ANC – and its unilateral processes – can indeed be overcome.
