ANC-controlled Emfuleni adopts eight proposals by FF Plus

Putting constant pressure on the ANC government can indeed result in success, as was demonstrated when the Emfuleni Local Municipality adopted eight of the FF Plus's proposals during a recent council meeting.

The proposals aimed at improving service delivery will benefit residents and force the Mayor, Sipho Radebe, and the municipal manager, April Ntuli, to exercise stringent control over projects.

The adopted proposals are:

1. Contracts that lapse on 31 March this year are extended to 30 September 2024 to rehabilitate and re-seal existing tar roads, as is necessary.

2. All current service provider contracts are also extended with 18 months from 31 March to 30 September 2024.

3. A public participation process, as indicated in Section 116 of the Municipal Financial Management Act, for placing advertisements was approved. The public participation process will last 14 days while awaiting input from the community. The municipal manager and mayor must table a final report with all comments to the council.

4. The accountant is responsible for renewing all contracts that lapse on 31 March.

5. The current contractors' names will all appear on the Emfuleni Municipality's website.

6. If the Emfuleni website is not active, the relevant information will be published in all local newspapers and a hard copy will be made available at the local library for general notice.

7. If the approved contractors do not perform their duties successfully, their contact will be cancelled.

8. The service agreement with the current provider of Emfuleni's website must be finalised.

The current financial budget for 2022/23 makes provision for R260 million, which was allocated by the Gauteng province, to extend the projects that lapse on 31 March with another 18 months.

The FF Plus tabled the abovementioned proposals to ensure that there is public participation, and to put measures in place to eradicate corruption.

If the service providers and contractors do not meet the prescribed standards, their contracts must be terminated at once.

In terms of the Municipal Financial Management Act, a process of a competitive offer will be followed.

The FF Plus in Emfuleni has never backed down to the ANC-controlled council and will continue to put pressure on the council for the benefit of all residents.
