The FF Plus is currently engaging with the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), Afrigis SA (responsible for Google Maps in South Africa) and other interested parties to find solutions to the problems frequently arising at Elgin Bridge.
Elgin Bridge should not become a repetition of the tragedy that unfolded in Boksburg on 24 December 2022 when a fuel tanker got stuck under a railway bridge and exploded.
The FF Plus asked the Ekurhuleni Metro to put up road signs warning vehicles that cannot make use of the route.
There are two alternative routes that vehicles, making deliveries to shopping centres on the other side of the Elgin Bridge, can use.
These two routes, via Pretoria Road and the P91, should also be clearly indicated on road signs.
Both routes are somewhat of a detour, but offer a safer alternative to prevent further accidents or tragedies.
The party will keep putting pressure on those responsible for the Elgin Bridge until the dangerous situation has been resolved.
