The FF Plus welcomes the Vhembe District Municipality’s plan to accelerate bulk water supply to the Local Municipalities of Makhado (Louis Trichardt), Thulamela, Musina and Collins Chabane.
These municipalities have been plagued by water shortages for years.
The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) will make a total of R5 billion available over five years to accelerate water supply in Vhembe.
In addition to direct financial support for infrastructure development, DBSA will also offer broad integrated development support and institutional capacity to Vhembe in partnership with public and private stakeholders.
In March this year, the FF Plus lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) and filed a criminal case against the Executive Mayor of Vhembe, Mr Dowelani Nenguda, and the acting Municipal Manager, Mr NC Tshikovha, with the police in Louis Trichardt relating to the water crisis.
As a result of the sustained pressure, Vhembe was recently prioritised and funds were made available as part of government’s District Development Plan, which aims to turn municipal service delivery around.
