Tshwane Metro Police achieves great successes over Easter weekend

This past Easter weekend, the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) went above and beyond to fulfil routine law enforcement responsibilities in addition to the pressure of roadblocks on main routes. Many fines were issued, stolen vehicles were recovered and a large quantity of heroin was seized.

The TMPD issued fines of R72 100 in Pretoria East for various offences such as, among other things, traffic violations and the use of illegal advertising trailers.

On 1 April, the canine unit recovered two stolen vehicles within an hour of being stolen.

In the first incident, a Nissan was stolen in Hatfield after a pickpocket stole the key from the owner’s pocket. The car was later found abandoned in Mamelodi.

The second vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, was stolen in Moreleta Park and was later recovered in Nellmapius Drive.

On 28 March, the narcotics unit received a tip-off about someone planning to smuggle drugs into Pretoria West.

The TMPD followed up immediately and a Nigerian was found to be in possession of heroin (Nyaope).

Nine plastic balls containing heroin were discovered in his white Suzuki, while another five plastic balls full of heroin were found hidden in his second vehicle, a Volkswagen T-Cross. Both vehicles were seized. The estimated value of the drugs is R49 000.

The FF Plus congratulated the TMPD on its successful operations. The Department demonstrated its commitment to ensuring public safety with the excellent results it achieved, so, the party recognises and appreciates its members’ hard work.

The FF Plus also supports the TMPD’s commitment to maintaining public order and safety in communities. The FF Plus will continue to encourage any and all initiatives aimed at promoting residents’ safety and making communities safer.

The FF Plus is calling on all residents to cooperate with the police and report any suspect activities to make the Tshwane Metro safer for all.
