Large parts of Tshwane are still without power after Tuesday evening’s huge storm.
In Pretoria, parts of the Moot (Rietfontein, Villieria, Eloffsdal, Rivieria, Deerness and Môregloed), Kameeldrif West, Boekenhoutkloof and Andeon are without power.
Power supply to the Rooiwal power station has since been restored.
The Rooiwal water treatment plant and the surrounding farming communities, which get their electricity from this power station, are still without power, though.
The Pyramid substation, where a fire broke out, has not yet been repaired.
The Metro’s Department of Energy and Electricity has been hard at work since Tuesday evening in an effort to repair the damage to the power grid. At this stage, the Department is unable to give an indication of when repairs will be completed.
The ongoing illegal SAMWU strike and associated organised crime exacerbate the slow rate of repairs.
The FF Plus understands the frustrations of many small business enterprises, such as landscaping services, garages and butcheries, which have had to temporarily close their doors as a result of the power outages.
Many of these businesses also cannot afford generators or the fuel needed to run them.
As coalition partner in the Metro, the FF Plus will do everything it can to ensure that the power grid is repaired as soon as possible.
