Investigation into Mpumalanga licence fraud should be expanded to include all provincial offices

It is imperative that Mpumalanga’s Department of Community Safety expands its investigation into licence fraud to include all provincial licensing offices.

The FF Plus made this request after the MEC, Mr Vusi Shongwe, revealed that the more than R35 million revenue loss due to fraud at the Kwamhlanga and Siyabuswa licensing offices will be recovered.

It follows the Department’s discovery that the licence discs of motor vehicles and trucks, particularly those in the fleets of certain companies, were fraudulently issued by these licensing offices at the end of last year.

It is absolutely imperative that all licensing offices in the province be investigated, and that regulations to prevent such fraud be implemented. The FF Plus tabled an urgent motion on this proposal.

Mpumalanga has already lost millions due to fraud and corruption committed by traffic department officials across the province.

These crimes in the province’s licensing departments should be urgently addressed.

Regulations should be put in place to prevent a few corrupt officials from stealing millions of rand earmarked for the provincial treasury to provide service delivery.

The only way to save South Africa from corruption is to register and vote. The ANC should be replaced by an accountable coalition government with the FF Plus as governing partner.
