The FF Plus is ready to fulfil its opposition role in the Tshwane Metro Council and will not join the ruling ANC/EFF/ActionSA coalition.
The party will, however, nominate one of its councillors to serve as the chairperson of the Metro’s Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).
Opposition parties usually fulfil this role in all three spheres of government.
The FF Plus is committed to combating corruption and the misappropriation of tax money, and being chairperson of the MPAC will give the party more teeth to fulfil its role as watchdog.
In its capacity as opposition, the party currently chairs five section-79 oversight committees. The councillors of other opposition parties, including those of the DA, are also still serving as chairpersons of certain oversight committees.
If the new ruling coalition decides to replace the current chairpersons, the FF Plus will continue to promote Tshwane residents’ interests as ordinary committee members.
The FF Plus is committed to a clean and corruption-free government, and will continue to serve residents with integrity.
