The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, undertook yesterday during a session of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) to see to it that the communication equipment of emergency services personnel in the North West is repaired and brought up to standard.
He made this undertaking at the FF Plus’s insistence. The party pointed out during a parliamentary question session that emergency services personnel in municipalities, such as the Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality (Matlosana and JB Marks), must often fend for themselves when it comes to communication.
The FF Plus also undertook to present all the available information on the matter to him.
Personnel are often forced to use their cell phones, at their personal expense, to communicate with each other and patients in emergency situations. It is absolutely unacceptable. It also poses a serious risk for patients due to frequent cell phone network outages.
The FF Plus will, in the interest of North West residents, keep the Deputy Minister to his word and monitor the repairs to the equipment.
The people of North West deserve better than the ANC.
