President Donald Trump’s sharp critique of state abuses, such as expropriation, in South Africa and threat that America will cut millions of dollars in funding to the country should be taken very seriously.
The ANC should know they are not hollow words.
The FF Plus will cooperate with an investigation in this regard, just like in the past when the party did all it could to inform the international community of events, such as farm murders, in South Africa.
The party is also calling on America to focus its efforts on the ANC’s leadership and relevant individuals, and not on ordinary South Africans who are already suffering the consequences of ANC abuses such as corruption and mismanagement.
Trump said, among other things, in a short video interview that “terrible things” are happening in South Africa:
South Africa’s “leadership is doing some terrible things, horrible things”. “So that’s under investigation right now. We’ll make a determination, and until such time as we find out what South Africa is doing — they’re taking away land and confiscating land, and actually they’re doing things that are perhaps far worse than that.”
The time has come for the West, and especially America, to send a loud and clear message to South Africa’s government: The oppression of minorities and looting of the country have to stop.
So far, South Africa has mainly sided with countries that are openly hostile towards America and its allies, such as Israel, and where human rights abuses are the norm.
The ANC government felt right at home among these countries where it could even embrace the terrorist group Hamas.
Clearly America is no longer willing to allow the ANC to loot the funds it makes available.
The steps taken against persons in the ANC and government circles could follow the same pattern as the action taken against Russian citizens after the war on Ukraine broke out.
People could be compelled to change their behaviour through economic sanctions, in particular, that affect these individuals’ financial activities, such as freezing or confiscation their foreign assets and imposing travel restrictions.
The great American bear has started growling at South Africa. This will certainly bring an end to the ANC’s unbridled destruction of South Africa over the course of more than three decades.
