A make-or-break year awaits South Africans in 2026 with the local government elections, which offers a golden opportunity to cast off the ANC yoke and get the country back on the right track.
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) believes that the country’s voters demonstrated their desire for renewal and improvement in the 2024 general elections, and that the ANC’s decline will gain further momentum.
So, hoping for change is realistic, and the polls offer an opportunity to bring about that change. It has to be seized.
After the elections, coalition governments will be key in keeping the ANC out of power as far as possible. On municipal level – particularly where the Freedom Front Plus was involved – it is obvious that coalitions can bring about drastic changes and better service delivery.
The Freedom Front Plus maintains that governance through coalitions is the only solution for a country with diverse communities. The time has come for South Africans to embrace this concept in order to ensure that every community is represented by a party that promotes its values and interests.
Over the course of more than 30 years, the Freedom Front Plus has shown that it is a solid party, rooted in Christian, humanitarian values, and that true peace and prosperity depend on the foundations of our society: strong family ties and an unwavering commitment to moral integrity.
The upcoming elections present a unique opportunity to make these values an integral part of local governments, as the party is already doing with great success in the coalition governments in which it participates.
These values can help South Africa achieve success once again by ensuring better governance and service delivery. South Africans are tired of incompetent governance and poor service delivery impacting their daily lives.
The collapse of the country’s municipalities is clearly evident in their audit outcomes. In 2023-24, the Auditor-General (AG) reported that only 8% of the 257 municipalities nationwide received clean audits – a decline from 14% in the previous year.
Municipal debt to Eskom exceeded R105 billion in September this year, compared to R94,6 billion in March and R74,4 billion in March 2024.
Government interventions bear no fruit, general decay is intensifying, and numerous provinces are characterised by poor financial management, unsustainable debt and failed projects. There is a nationwide, systemic failure to deliver basic services. In addition, water systems are collapsing, and the country faces an inevitable, catastrophic water shortage.
It cannot go on like this. It cannot go on like this. We have reached a watershed moment. That is why the 2026 elections are so significant. It is time for change!
By working together, we can restore our municipalities and build a future where everyone prospers. The Freedom Front Plus is committed to leading from the front to make the necessary changes. May 2026 be a year of hope and renewal.
Blessed New Year!
