Police must act following discovery of yet another female body in Springs

The police have to step up their crime-fighting efforts on the East Rand after the remains of a sixth woman were discovered on Tuesday morning in KwaThema, near Springs.

The bodies of six women found within a specific area should not be treated as isolated incidents. It warrants an urgent, coordinated and intelligence-driven investigation.

The police need to maximise their crime intelligence capabilities to identify patterns, possible links, suspects and high-risk areas. Intelligence should not only come into play after there has been another victim. Preventing more deaths and identifying suspects are paramount.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) implores the police to increase their visible presence in high-risk areas, urgently coordinate investigations and mobilise all intelligence resources at their disposal.

Meanwhile, the party calls on East Rand residents to remain extremely vigilant, especially when travelling alone, entering unknown places or meeting people they do not know well.

Any suspicious behaviour or information that could help identify and apprehend a suspect must be reported to the police immediately.
