The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) in Kempton Park warns the Ekurhuleni Metro not to withhold information from residents about power outages affecting them.
Residents have the right to know what is causing the outages and how long repairs are expected to take.
Meanwhile, communities such as Spartan, Cresslawn, Rhodesfield Extension 1, Kempton Park CBD, Kempton Park Extensions 1 to 4 and Ester Park have had no electricity supply for four days.
The town centre remains shrouded in darkness, while cable theft exacerbates the situation.
At a time of severe financial strain, households cannot afford to let their refrigerated food spoil. Students and learners writing examinations are forced to use expensive alternative energy sources and, if they do not have the option, households sit in utter darkness.
This is a direct onslaught on the dignity, safety and well-being of residents who pay their utility bills every month, yet receive inadequate services in return.
The Freedom Front Plus will not allow Kempton Park residents to be treated like second-class citizens while an incompetent administration fails to provide basic service delivery.
The party will keep pressuring the Energy Department until electricity supply has been restored and residents receive honest, timely and transparent communication, to which they are entitled.
It is high time that residents reconsider their support for the current administration.
If Kempton Park wants a metro that functions, protects infrastructure and respects taxpayers, there is no other choice but to vote for the Freedom Front Plus – a party that has demonstrated that service delivery comes first and residents’ interests are top priority.
