The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the Ekurhuleni Metro’s announcement of new dates and additional venues for public participation on the basic electricity charge proposed for the 2025/26 financial year.
This fixed monthly charge amounts to R109,78 (excluding VAT) for single-phase households and R203,89 for three-phase consumers, and is intended to cover the costs of electricity distribution and infrastructure maintenance – regardless of how much electricity the consumer uses.
The party pressured the Metro to expand the public participation process and not limit it to just a few venues that many residents may find difficult to access.
Legislation stipulates that all residents must be given a fair and reasonable opportunity to make submissions on matters that directly affect them.
The new meetings will take place as follows:
Saturday, 11 October 2025 at 11:00
• Alberton: New Council Chamber (Wards 37, 38, 94, 106)
• Benoni/Brakpan: Actonville Hall (Wards 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 73, 110)

The Freedom Front Plus calls on residents from all over Ekurhuleni to seize this opportunity and attend these sessions in large numbers. Now is the time for communities to voice their opinions about the affordability and fairness of the proposed tariff structure.
In addition to attending the meetings, residents are also encouraged to submit their comments online. This can be done at the following link: https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/3da37e6aba55485aaef74d5f107d0ff5
Public participation is not a privilege, but a constitutional right.
The Freedom Front Plus remains fully committed to ensuring that residents are respected and their voices heard in all municipal processes.
