The FF Plus immediately stepped in when the fate of a Transnet pensioner, who had been sitting in a chair in the casualty department of the Yusuf Dadoo Hospital awaiting treatment for more than two days, was brought to its attention.
Mr Piet Olivier’s (70) wife, Margaret, took him to the Yusuf Dadoo Hospital in Krugersdorp on 17 August. He has heart and lung problems as well as cancer.
Mrs Olivier contacted the FF Plus councillor in the Mogale City Local Municipality, Lourens Gouws, because she was concerned about her husband who had not received any treatment.
The FF Plus visited the acting hospital manager, Tsebo Litheko, who indicated that the Hospital has a shortage of staff. The situation is exacerbated when visits to the casualty department increase.
Mr Olivier was admitted to a ward shortly after to receive the necessary treatment.
The FF Plus is aware that state hospitals generally contend with staffing challenges, but will not allow seriously ill patients to be negatively affected by it.
