Matthys Jacobus van Tonder is a councillor and caucus leader in the JB Marks Local Municipality. He obtained a BA degree in Psychology and Criminology and is pursuing further studies in public project management and leadership. His political experience includes service as a ward councillor, district councillor, and MPAC member. He serves on committees for community safety, sport, arts and culture. Matthys is also involved in the VF Plus’s provincial and federal structures. He brings experience in political leadership, municipal oversight, strategy, safety and community representation to public service.
“Experience taught me that good government requires strong leadership, thorough oversight and direct accountability. JB Marks residents deserve a municipality that puts service delivery and responsible spending first. We must coordinate neighbourhood watches and community forums more effectively to combat crime, vandalism and cable theft. At the same time, every repair project must have a responsible person, deadline and measurable outcome. I want to ensure that problems are not merely discussed, but followed up until residents experience visible improvement in their neighbourhoods and take pride in their municipality again.”
