Martiens Pretorius was born in Schweizer-Reneke in 1956, attended school there and still lives locally. From 1982 to 2000, he was director of Technical Services in Mamusa, where he gained extensive knowledge of local infrastructure, municipal systems and practical service delivery. He then worked as an excavation manager from 2000 to 2026. His career combines technical judgement, staff and operational management, problem-solving and responsibility for safe implementation. Martiens knows Mamusa’s history and its current challenges and offers experienced, calm and results-oriented leadership for the recovery of Schweizer-Reneke and surrounding communities.
“I knew Mamusa’s technical services from within and know that water, electricity, sewage, roads and stormwater cannot be managed through emergency repairs alone. Every network needs a complete asset register, capable team, maintenance schedule, emergency stock and responsible manager. My years as director of Technical Services and later as an excavation manager taught me that safety, preparation and strict follow-up go together. I want to use that experience to challenge poor planning, test repairs against quality standards and help ensure that residents can once again rely on dependable basic services.”
