Daleen van Manen is the candidate for ward 33 and resident of Hartbeespoort. She is a journalist, photographer, subeditor and proofreader with more than forty years of experience in community media. Daleen obtained a BA degree in Afrikaans, English and Psychology at the University of Pretoria. Through her reporting, she told residents’ stories for decades, investigated dysfunction and brought municipal service-delivery problems to public attention. She is also actively involved in animal welfare. Daleen brings investigative curiosity, language ability and a strong commitment to honest, understandable communication with the community.
Public trust grows when residents can see the full story what was billed, collected, what was protected and which services were repaired with it. Madibeng must publish a monthly scorecard showing where money is spent on water, sewage, electricity, roads and refuse removal. Both successes and backlogs must be named, with officials and deadlines. My career as a community journalist taught me that people understand complex matters when facts are presented clearly. Transparency is not marketing; it is a way to keep power accountable and make participation genuinely meaningful.
