Zuma and Van Rooyen loses first round in their attempts to stop report on state capture

The FF Plus welcomes the court’s decision today in the case on the Public Protector’s issuing of the report on state capture, Dr. Pieter Mulder, Leader of the FF Plus, says.

Dr. Mulder says the attempts of President Jacob Zuma and Minister Des van Rooyen to prevent the retired Public Protector’s, Adv. Thuli Madonsela, report on state capture from being released experienced a serious set-back when the court dismissed minister Des van Rooyen’s application as it lacked urgency.

He said it is also gratifying that the court also found that opposition parties and Vytjie Mentor, former ANC parliamentary member were granted permission to intervene in the application of the President as they had an interest in the matter.

“It has already been several months since the first allegations of state capture had been made. The government’s consistent attempts to circumvent these allegations strengthen the perception that these allegations are true. This circus can only be stopped by clear court judgments and the release of the Public Protector’s report on state capture.

“It is in the interest of the economy and political stability in South Africa that clarity is found about the allegations being made about state capture and the favouring of certain individuals. The FF Plus will continue to put pressure where the party can in the interest of everyone in South Africa,” Dr. Mulder said.
