Water tanker company misuses Tshwane property

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) is the only party that has confronted the Tshwane Metro Council about a water tanker company illegally occupying a metro-owned property in Olievenhoutbosch.

Even though the water tanker company invoices the Metro Council for delivering water to Olievenhoutbosch residents, the company does not pay any rent for using the property in question.

A report tabled to the Council, in preparation for it to be transferred to the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, reveals that the Metro is currently losing R12 500 in rental income every month.

It was confirmed during the most recent council meeting that the property has been illegally occupied since 2011, and that the Freedom Front Plus is the only party that has tried to put an end to it. Moreover, the party believes that numerous bylaws have been violated seeing as the property is being used for purposes for which it is not zoned.

The Freedom Front Plus insists that the Metro’s property and housing division immediately look into the illegal use of the premises and take steps to recover accrued rent.

Even if the property is earmarked for transfer, municipal bylaws should still be enforced and rental income should be collected.

The Freedom Front Plus will officially request the Executive Mayor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, to take action against the company and the officials who allowed this illegal occupation to continue for so long.
