The FF Plus welcomes the civil claim that has been lodged against former councillors, chairpersons and executive officers of Eskom in an attempt to recover the money that was lost at the power utility due to corruption.
The defendants in this civil claim include the former Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mosebenzi Zwane, as well as the Guptas.
The FF Plus has for a long time asked that steps must be taken to recover the funds lost at Eskom due to corruption.
The guilty parties must now also be criminally prosecuted. Taking civil steps is not enough and could be seen as no more than window-dressing because the estimated R3,8 billion will most probably not be successfully recovered from the implicated individuals.
Eskom announced earlier today that it joined forces with the Special Investigating Unit to have a summons issued by the High Court in Pretoria in an attempt to recover the lost funds.
To effectively combat corruption, the politicians who are implicated in irregular transactions must be duly prosecuted and severely punished.
