It was reckless and very disappointing of the National Energy Regulator (Nersa) to condone Eskom’s poor management by agreeing to a tariff increase of 9,4%, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on Energy said.
Adv. Alberts says the FF Plus is strongly opposed to the increase as Eskom itself is worried about the fact that its client base is consistently shrinking. The latest increase will contribute to this and will lead to fewer clients having to support Eskom.
He said the FF Plus is of the opinion that Eskom will have stop its internal wasting of funds and also end its non-rewarding supply contracts with the Gupta’s and other empowerment companies to become profitable again.
“The FF Plus will add its voice to those who are demanding answers about the increase from Nersa. It cannot be tolerated any longer that a small group of payers are increasingly milked to pay for state operated entities’ waste and improper advantaging of cadres.
“Seen against the backdrop of the countries weak economic growth, this increase is extremely ill-considered and will cause great harm to the country. The FF Plus rejects this with contempt,” Adv. Alberts said.
